Jonathan Marcus
As the firm's Chief Counsel, Marcus is responsible for the firm's compliance, enterprise risk management, legal and market regulation matters. Prior to joining Chicagoland, Marcus served as a partner in private practice at Reed Smith LLP, where he specialized in derivatives regulatory, litigation and enforcement matters. He also served as General Counsel at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) from 2013 to 2017, where he counseled and advised the Commission on a variety of legal issues, including the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act and the regulation of digital assets. In addition, Marcus served as Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Assistant U.S. Deputy Attorney General at the CFTC. He has also held senior positions in the Derivatives Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom and in the Appellate and Supreme Court Group at Covington & Burling.Marcus began his career on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Federal Circuit, then-Judge José A. Cabranes. Marcus began his career on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit as a law clerk to Judge José A. Cabranes. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and a J.D. from the University's School of Law.
